Event Water Safety Volunteers

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) is a provider of water safety and rescue services at a wide range of open water events including sporting competitions and festivals.

The Event Safety team is committed to providing high-quality, effective water safety and rescue services, that make the best use of our army of fully qualified volunteers.

To ensure effective and efficient operations we need a mix of volunteers to:

  • Provide safety cover: lifeguards, kayakers, powerboat helms, first aiders
  • Provide welfare support: cater for the crew, look after kit and general team welfare support

At times you will be based on the land, at other times on the water but, you will never be asked to perform a task you are not trained to do. Wherever possible, we will coordinate training to support your ongoing development.

Each event is different, but if you are signed up to join the team, you will be given detailed instructions explaining the role and support you can expect (travel and subsistence etc.).

To find out which events we're currently recruiting volunteers for or sign up to be contacted about volunteering with RLSS UK at future events, visit our Event Water Safety page.

Local Awareness Events

RLSS UK organises a number of events and campaigns throughout the year to support our membership, and spread our essential messages to the public across the UK and Ireland. Our variety of events range from national sports events to local community stands and engagement opportunities, with much more in between. There are a variety of roles available to cater to a range of skill sets and time commitments.

We are always looking for friendly, enthusiastic volunteers who love speaking to people and acting as positive ambassadors for the charity. If you don’t mind giving up some of your time to help the smooth operation of RLSS UK events and campaigns, we would love to hear from you.

Volunteer for your Local Club

We believe that giving people in their communities, the tools, skills and support to lead and take ownership of local activities, is the best way to educate the public about water safety. You could help to spread the word in your local area by supporting the activity of, and volunteering at your local club.

There are likely lots of varied roles available there which could range from: helping to actually run the lifesaving training, representing the club at community events, managing the club's social media channels, supporting your local branch, general admin duties.

Water Safety Education Volunteer

In 2022 alone, there were 35 reports of children drowning- the equivalent of a classroom of children. RLSS UK have a variety of invaluable educational resources and lesson plans which help to teach water safety to children of all ages but we need volunteers to help us to deliver it into schools.

Our Water Safety Education Volunteers support us in spreading the word as widely as possible and work with their local schools and colleges to ensure that children have an opportunity to learn this vital lifesaving information.

Fundraising Volunteer

Donations are vital to our success in reducing the number of drowning tragedies every year. Whether it be fundraising at a community event, taking on one of our challenges or accepting donations at a training session you deliver, could you help us to raise those essential funds?
