Lifesaving Sport

The Royal Life Saving Society UK is the National Governing Body for pool-based Lifesaving Sport - a sport recognised by the International Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Federation. Lifesaving Sport is the only sport whose skills are first learned for humanitarian purposes.

As showcased in our new promotional video, Lifesaving Sport is a competitive and dynamic international sport, with a variety of fun and challenging activities that take place in and out of the water at swimming pools and the beach. It is also an important vehicle to engage young people in lifesaving and support drowning prevention.

About Swansea

RLSS UK are thrilled to be hosting the Commonwealth Lifesaving Championships from the National Pool of Wales in Swansea - a vibrant coastal city that is certainly fitting for such an exciting and innovative sport.

As the second-largest city in Wales, Swansea is known and loved for its thriving cultural scene, beautiful coastline and as the gateway to the Gower Peninsula – a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The National Pool of Wales

The National Pool of Wales is an ideal venue for the Championships, with an Olympic-size competition pool and 1,200 spectator seats. The pool has been the training home of some of the largest names in UK swimming such as doubled-Olympic medallist Jazz Carlin, David Davies and Paralympic superstars David Roberts and Ellie Simmonds. It will be fantastic to see Lifesaving Sport athletes from around the Commonwealth follow in their footsteps.

Travelling into the City

Swansea is well-connected by road and rail, with frequent services to Cardiff, London, and other major cities. The M4 motorway provides a direct route to London, while Swansea railway station is a key hub on the South Wales Main Line.

Airports

The nearest airport to Wales is Cardiff (CWL) Airport which is 64.5 miles away.

Other nearby airports include Bristol (BRS) (76.9 miles), Birmingham (BHX) (85.8 miles) and Manchester (MAN) (96.6 miles).

Directions by Car

Travelling west on the M4 leave the motorway at junction 42 and follow signs for Swansea on the A483 (Fabian Way).

On crossing the River Tawe, the A483 becomes the A4067. Continue west along this road, passing Sainsbury’s Superstore on the left-hand side of the road. After approximately 2 miles, turn right onto Sketty Lane. Travelling up Sketty Lane (A4216), Swansea Bay Sports Park playing fields will be on your left. At the traffic lights, turn left into the facilities where you will see a car park immediately in front of the facilitates.
