From thematic lesson plans to promotional selfie frames, RLSS UK’s new resources are seeking to help educate as many children and families as possible to help spread the word this year and encourage people to share its water safety advice far and wide. Drowning Prevention Week (15-22 June 2024) is RLSS UK’s biggest campaign of the year, seeking to target families, carers, teachers and instructors of children aged five to 15 years old, with the aim of educating them about water safety. This year, the Society has refreshed the look of popular resources such as ‘Murray mats’ and activity sheets, using the new characters from its recent water safety animations. In addition, RLSS UK has added multiple brand-new resources to the website, including accessible flashcards, colourful ‘enjoy water safely’ stickers and two DPW banner designs. Whether looking for educational resources for schools, leisure centres, clubs or even to have the water safety conversation at home, RLSS UK’s resources are available to download, ready to be printed locally in time for the campaign. With your help, The Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS UK) educated an incredible 1.85 million children in water safety during Drowning Prevention Week 2023. This year, RLSS UK would like to reach even more families with its vital lifesaving advice – so is asking for everyone to ‘do their bit’ and support the campaign. No child should drown, and with the right water safety education – such as knowledge of the Water Safety Code – accidental drownings are preventable. Drowning Prevention Week is deliberately timed ahead of the school summer holidays when children spend more time outdoors and when vital water safety skills can help keep children safe.
