Bryan Finlay, President The event marks Bryan Finlay stepping up from the role of Deputy President of RLSS UK as the first Scottish member of the Society to become RLSS UK President. He replaces Deborah Hunt as President and will hold this position for the next three years. Bryan has been involved with RLSS UK since he was 13 years old, when he joined his local lifesaving club. He has been RLSS UK’s Deputy President, a Trustee, and now President. Bryan has dedicated much of his time to supporting the Society's training and charitable initiatives. Bryan’s background includes dedicated volunteering, providing lifesaving and water safety training, and being a qualified paramedic and Community Resuscitation Development Manager for the Scottish Ambulance Service.Upon his appointment for the President position, Bryan said: “I am honoured to have been voted in as the Society’s new President, as we look to move forward into our five-year strategic framework.“Having been involved with the Society since I was just a young boy joining my local lifesaving club, I am thrilled to be able to take on the baton from Deborah and continue with the Society’s important work and have a profound impact in the world of water safety.“I’m brimming with ideas on how to continue building awareness of our charity. I am excited to start this new chapter and contribute to RLSS UK’s driving mission as water safety experts.” Peter Moyes, Deputy President The charity also announced its new Deputy President, Peter Moyes. Peter’s background has seen him become a senior Police Leader, a Local Authority Director, the CEO of an education charity, and now the Director at Barnsley Premier Leisure. Peter brings experience, insight, and commitment, having served as Deputy President from 2010 to 2013, followed by his three-year term as President in 2013 to 2016. This will enable him to bring energy, knowledge, and a clear voice to the role. Peter says: “I am thrilled to be taking on the role of Deputy President once more at RLSS UK as the Society enters an important era. “Having gained experience working as Deputy President in 2010, I’m excited to bring my knowledge and expertise to help propel the charity forward. “I look forward to working with Bryan and achieving positive change over the next three years.” For the 2025 elections, one trustee position was also available, and three candidates put themselves forward for the role. After lots of fantastic campaigning from the candidates, the members of RLSS UK cast their votes and chose Stephen Gould to join the Board of Trustees. RLSS UK Chief Executive Officer, Simmy Akhtar, said: “I would like to thank Deborah Hunt for her tireless work and dedication over the past three years as the first female President at RLSS UK and wish her all the best for the future. “Welcome and congratulations to Bryan on the role of RLSS UK President. I look forward to working together over the next three years to deliver our 2025-2030 Strategic Framework with a vision to have communities free from drowning. “We also welcome Peter as Deputy President and Stephen Gould as a Trustee. They have demonstrated great commitment to RLSS UK and it is exciting to have a breadth of experience and knowledge on our Board of Trustees which will allow us to all work together to prevent drowning, so everyone can enjoy water safely.” Find more information about how we are run and how our members add their voices Manage Cookie Preferences
